Every year around Feb/March, I update this list so that I can add new free patterns, check/update all the links and remove all the patterns that are no longer available for free (TIP: they don’t always stay free, so if you see a pattern you like, I recommend you download it!).

This year I have also spent hours collating the size information for each garment and added the bust/hip measurement so you can know if it is worth clicking on the link or not! This was a mammoth task, many of the designers DO NOT make it easy to find out what the body measurements are for each pattern. In fact, I had to go all the way through the process to sign up/check out etc and download so many of these as there is no size information available at all until you actually have the pattern, this is so frustrating to then find out that the pattern won’t fit! I honestly don’t see what the designers have to gain from tricking potential customers into downloading their free pattern that won’t fit them?! DESIGNERS: PUBLISH YOUR MEASUREMENT CHART WITH YOUR FREE PATTERNS!

Anyway, until they do, I’ve done the work for you, there are no free patterns included that come in ‘One Size’ and I have included the body measurements (not the finished garment measurements) for the bust/hip or both where appropriate. I know a lot of people are having a hard time financially at the moment so I hope some free sewing will help!

Mood Fabrics – has so many free patterns that I couldn’t possibly list them all, make a cup of tea and spend some time having a browse – lots of readers have recommended them!

Peppermint Magazine – I know I’ve mentioned it in every section but their sewing school page really is worth a browse if you are looking for a new project on zero budget. The patterns are all really well drafted by top designers in collaboration with Peppermint Magazine. I highly recommend checking them out and having a look through the full list! All the patterns are they are free for download from the website but since the pandemic has hit, Peppermint do ask for a small donation if you can afford it.
