Here’s the next installment of my little Product Review series! I asked for this Clover Point 2 Point turner not knowing exactly when I was going to review it, just knowing that at some point I will be sure to need it. Up until now I’ve been trying to use a sad lonely chopstick that got seperated from it’s partner long ago (but it’s a bit too bulky), or a pair of scissors (bit too stabby pokey) to help poke out nice crisp corners. I didn’t realise that there was actually a proper tool for such a thing! There is and it’s called the Point 2 Point turner from Clover.
After having this in my drawer for a couple of weeks, I found myself needing it while I was making the True Bias Lander Pants. The front pockets are fully lined and require bagging out, so those corners need poking out well, same goes for the corners of the waistband and the back pockets. Time to crack out this gadget and give it a go!
It is made of a hard plastic and feels quite nice in the hand. I didn’t expect it to be useful for a whole bunch of things other than just poking out corners. There is the pokey end (which has obvious uses!) and there is a curved end, I thought this was just to poke out longer flat or curved edges (which it does) but it is basically a Hera Marker on the other end too! I have been thinking of purchasing a Hera Marker for a while so I was really pleased that BONUS I basically now have both.
If you don’t know what a Hera marker is, its a plastic tool for making markings on fabric by basically pressing the mark into it, no chalk or actual marking made. I don’t think it would replace chalk entirely but I think it might come in useful. It seemed to work well on this cotton twill I am using for my Landers so I am interested to try it out on some other fabrics and see how well that goes!
The pokey end worked well for what I needed it for too, it is not sharp so doesn’t run the risk of poking through the fabric like scissors but it’s thin and pointed, much better than my poor lone chopstick that will probably be even more lonely now it’s not even getting used for poking!
By the end of making my Landers I was getting cross when I couldn’t find this tool amongst the chaos (read: HUGE MESS) to help me turn out the waistband, so I’d say I am pretty pleased with this! I’m not super sure about the Landers on me so they might not be as much of a huge success but hey, at least I am pleased with my new gadget!
