Hello!

It’s quite hard to follow up on last week’s Freebie Sewing Patterns blog post – man we all love a free pattern don’t we? Luckily, I’ve got some gorgeous sewing tools to giveaway so we can keep the free stuff train going!

A few weeks ago, my mum posted on Instagram a picture of my grandma’s button tin and it got a conversation going about people having their mum’s/grandma’s/aunties/great-gran’s button tins and all the treasures that are found inside. This led to my mum coming up with the idea for this wonderful challenge and giveaway!

We want to see pictures of your sewing precious things! Do you have a button tin filled with vintage buttons? Any precious pins? Some special scissors? Some treasured tools? They don’t have to be passed down through generations of sewists, did you treat yourself to something special for a significant birthday? Did you find something in an old sewing box? Or maybe you’ve sewn something precious? Have you repurposed your grandma’s wedding dress into something precious?  We want to see whatever is precious to you!

I thought I would kick this off by showing you some of my #sewingprecious things and then I will tell you exactly what you can win and how to enter!

This thimble is one of my sewing precious items. It’s sterling silver from the late 1800s and I bought it for myself, but it is still sewing precious, let me tell you why. I had it in my eBay watchlist for a long time and after attending the funeral service of my favourite uncle I wanted some cheering up. So I bought it for myself. Now it has a very special place in my heart because it is beautiful and because it reminds me of a very special man. I think of him when I see it in my sewing tin and I think perfectly embodies the spirit of the #sewingprecious challenge.

The other precious item I wanted to show you is this wooden tailors clapper. It was a 30th birthday present from my parents, but that’s not why it’s precious. It’s precious because my dad made it for me. He is a very skilled joiner but rarely uses his woodworking talents in his handyman’s job. For my birthday I asked if he could make this for me. I never imagined it would look this professional and be so beautiful. He even took the time to engrave my family nickname on the side ‘TOR’ and even put a screw in the side because he thought that made it look like a dinosaur! A perfect example of my dad’s sense of humour and another reason that this will forever be one of my #sewingprecious items.
